Faculty AI-Assisted Mains Evaluation on Shelf

Faculty open a submission and start marking immediately. Shelf prepares AI question support in the background—concepts, facts, approaches, and Grammarly-style spell notes—without blocking your draft.

Mark first; AI catches up

When a faculty reviewer opens a Mains answer, the checking screen is ready right away: student text or image, marks, and feedback. AI support loads in the background and fills the sticky sidebar when ready—like waiting for notes to appear in a document, not a spinner that blocks the page.

You can keep drafting marks while Shelf prepares core concepts, a quotable fact (only when a real public source is available), and valid answer approaches for the question.

Annotate like Shelf, mark like a mentor

Use Read, Pen, Highlight, and Page note on the answer sheet—the same annotation habits as the rest of Shelf. Ink and page notes stay private to the faculty draft; release still publishes marks and written feedback only.

When AI finishes, the transcript gains mentor-style underlines (strengths, tighten-ups, value-adds) with Shelf hover cards, plus spelling suggestions you can skim in the sidebar or on the text itself.

What does not change

Draft → Save evaluation → Release still works the same way. AI never auto-publishes grades. Students keep any instant AI review they already had; faculty marks remain the official released feedback.

  • Capability: faculty.review (FACULTY / ADMIN).
  • Inbox filters: To check, Evaluated, Released.
  • Suggested marks prefill only when your draft marks are empty.
