  2. Enter name exactly as on Class 10 certificate
  3. Verify mobile and email with separate OTPs

Compliance

Six fatal form mistakes

Outdated OBC-NCL / EWS certificate

Consequence: Converted to General; loss of reservation.

Rule: Certificate for the financial year preceding the exam, dated before closing date.

Name mismatch with Class 10 in OTR

Consequence: Rejection at centre or Mains DAF.

Rule: Name must match matriculation certificate letter-by-letter (no Mr/Ms/Dr).

Late application → distant centre

Consequence: Long travel to secondary city.

Rule: First-apply-first-allot — apply in the first few days.

Blurry / dark / capped photo

Consequence: Admit card held or identity mismatch.

Rule: Clear light-background photo; face ~¾ of frame.

Unverified fee payment

Consequence: Application incomplete / fee unpaid.

Rule: Status must show Part-II completed & fee paid.

Multiple OTR profiles

Consequence: Duplicate detection; debarment risk.

Rule: Exactly one OTR for life; use the update window if needed.

Is OTR mandatory?

Yes — one lifetime profile on upsconline.nic.in before you apply to any UPSC exam.

Who pays the Prelims fee?

Gen/EWS/OBC male typically ₹100. Female, SC, ST, PwBD are usually exempt (₹0).
